Before you take on the art of speed reading there are a few things that you must do first.  The most important thing is learn how to read.  After all, if you do not know how to read you will never be able to speed read. Luckily, this is something that the majority of people in the world can do without any problems.  If you have a hard time you should look into learning to read before you start to work on your overall speed.

When it comes to learning to read you will be able to get help in a number of different places.  If you are an adult you should look into one of the many tutoring programs that are available all over the world. You can find these programs online, or by looking in the yellow pages.  Remember, there is a lot that reading has to offer.  Even if you can read a bit, you will need to become more seasoned before you can look into what speed reading has to offer.

When you are finally ready for speed reading you will combine what you have learned in the past with what it takes to read for speed. This may seem difficult, but after you become familiar with the techniques of speed reading you will be well on your way to success. 

As you can see you should not look into speed reading until you are mastered reading at a regular pace. The fact of the matter is that speed reading is a luxury that you can do without.  Sure, it would be nice to read at a fast pace but this is not necessarily something that you need.  But on the other side of things, being able to read at a normal pace is a must in today’s day and age.
